Dirty Dogs Donates 3,500 Pounds of Pet Food to Rancho Coastal Humane Society

In one of the most successful pet food drives San Diego has ever seen, Dirty Dogs donated 3,500 pounds of pet food and supplies to the Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas on Tuesday, January 7th, 2014.  Dirty Dogs met with volunteers and staff members of RCHS and delivered enough pet food and supplies to restock their food bank which supports needy pet owners in the area.  The food bank provides pet food to pet owners who might otherwise relinquish their pet due to low income or other difficult circumstances.

The team at Dirty Dogs launched the holiday food drive on October 26th in conjunction with their annual HOWLoween Yappetizers event and raised 3,500 pounds over the next two months.  Dirty Dogs had donation bins in all of their stores and large posters that promoted the donation drive and showed the drive’s progress with regular updates.

Customers, friends and vendors of Dirty Dogs are the true philanthropists this holiday season.  All pet food and supplies were graciously donated by customers and friends at Dirty Dogs stores.  Customers were also encouraged to like Dirty Dogs on Facebook.  For every new Like on Facebook, Dirty Dogs would donate one pound of dog food to RCHS.  Dirty Dogs garnered 300 new Likes on their Facebook page adding 300 pounds to the total donation.  Additionally, Natural Balance pet food generously donated 250 pounds of dog food to the cause.

“It was truly inspiring to see how energized our customers were about contributing to the well being of the animals of RCHS,” said Riley Bandy, manager at Dirty Dogs.  “We put together donation bags of products that RCHS needed and the bag prices usually ranged between $10 and $50 based on the amount of food.  At the end of the weekends, it was the $10 bags that remained on the wall, all of the $50 bags had been purchased!”

Dirty Dogs is already planning their next holiday food drive to support RCHS.  With the help of their customers and more support from their healthy dog food vendors they will aim to reach 5,000 pounds next season.  “Our customers understand how much love and value their pets bring to their lives.” said Riley.  “If they can contribute to a cause that might bring that same love to other people’s lives, they’ll do it.”
