Carmel Valley Highlands Resident Hired at Zephyr

Carmel Valley San Diego Community | Jenna Brossman | Zephyr LogoZephyr Expands Team with Four Hires, Including Senior Vice President of Real Estate Finance and Vice President of Land Development. San Diego-based real estate development and investment company Zephyr has expanded its team and continues to grow with multiple projects, including The Park, 60 high-end condos and townhomes in Bankers Hill; The Block, a mixed-use residential development planned for downtown; Signature Homes, custom-spec properties in A+ locations throughout the region; and the $50 million acquisition of a nine-acre parcel in Dana Point, California, where the company plans to develop a mixed-use community.

New hires include Dean Loisel (a Carmel Valley Highlands resident) as senior vice president of real estate finance, Mike Lake as vice president of land development, Russel Kaup as senior project manager and Amber Frankhuizen as sales manager. Jeff Schieferstein has been promoted to vice president of construction.

Dean Loisel – a skilled real estate development and finance executive with more than 15 years’ experience in executing complex projects – will help lead Zephyr’s developments, utilizing his knowledge of real estate investment, acquisitions, contract negotiations and management. Prior to joining Zephyr, he was the vice president of finance for the Faena Group, a real estate and hospitality group from Buenos Aires.

Mike Lake previously worked as vice president of land development for California West Communities and as project manager for Ryland Homes. In his new role, Lake will coordinate all phases of project development for Zephyr’s Signature Homes. He has extensive experience negotiating purchase agreements, developing contracts, managing escrows and developing strong working relationships with bank and equity partners, land sellers, community groups and more.

Russel Kaup is an established development and procurement executive with more than 15 years of industry leadership experience, and previously worked as the regional vice president of procurement and supply chain for MDC Holdings, a leading homebuilding and financial services company. Before that, Kaup was the vice president of construction services for Centex Homes in San Diego.

Amber Frankhuizen – who has extensive experience in real estate sales, marketing and project management – will oversee sales and marketing of Zephyr’s Signature Homes. A former leasing manager with Carmel Partners, she’s executed more than 2,800 contracts and closed over $15 million in sales, exceeding the company’s goals.

Recently promoted at Zephyr, Jeff Schieferstein has a 15-year history of success in construction management. In his new role as vice president of construction, he’ll oversee purchasing, supervision and management of all construction for Signature Homes, as well as Zephyr’s multi-family projects.
