Carmel Valley Preschool “Read for the Record” Results

Carmel Valley San Diego Community | Kristin Rude | Children Listening to StoryOn October 21, 2014, people across the country united to read the children’s book Bunny Cakes, a comical story of sibling bonding and birthday shenanigans, by bestselling author and illustrator Rosemary Wells, in support of Jumpstart’s mission: to work toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed.

Carmel Valley Preschool, FasTracKids Del Mar, helped make Read for the Record® such a fun and impactful day for millions of children!  This year, 2,383,645 people around the globe came together to celebrate literacy and to talk about the importance of high-quality early education.  While we fell just short of reaching the world record from last year, Jumpstart still holds the world record for the largest reading experience.

FasTracKids Centers around the world set our own record for child participants with 22,996 (compared to 22,877 from last year), the most participants to date!

Each year, the campaign has shone a national spotlight on America’s early education achievement gap and highlighted Jumpstart’s programs as a way to address this crisis.  Since 2006, the campaign has:

  • Engaged 11.5 MILLION children
  • Raised more than $8.6 MILLION for early education programs
  • Provided more than 1.6 MILLION books for children in low-income neighborhoods
