On a beautiful 4th of July morning, hundreds of Del Mar residents came together to participate in the Del Mar Foundation’s annual 4th of July parade. As a local resident, I was on site, with my family and friends, ready to enjoy the day of festivities!
Everyone is welcome to come and join in on the parade – families are encouraged to dress up and decorate their bikes, scooters, wagons, baby strollers and even gold carts! Decorations include balloons, streamers, flags and creative red, white and blue decorations of all types. There was quite a hustle and bustle of excitement on the streets of Del Mar on the morning of the parade- that’s for sure. Marchers are encouraged to bring their leased dogs dressed in patriotic colors and costumes. Neighbors come to march in the parade or just hang out and watch the festivities and listen to the fun music.
The Major, City Council Members and Uncle Sam lead the parade – this is an annual tradition sponsored by the Del Mar Foundation that was reinvented this year. The parade finished off at The Powerhouse Park where many families enjoyed lemonade and the kids took part in fun games. Children were able to tour a working Del Mar Fire Engine and get an official Del Mar fire hat.
This was such a fun community event to be a part of and we hope to see you at next year’s parade!
