Del Mar Farmer’s Market – from Produce to Education

There is something about a farmer’s market that I just love.  I’m not sure if it’s the idea of supporting local farmers, being able to buy organic fresh produce or just seeing some of the same vendors every week and developing a personal relationship with them.  I recently stumbled across the Del Mar Farmer’s Market, held in the Del Mar City Parking Lot and just knew that this would be a place I often visited on my Saturday afternoons.

The Del Mar Farmer’s Market is a certified Farmers Market that has been serving the residents of Del Mar and surrounding cities every Saturday, rain or shine, since it first opened 25 years ago.  The market has a variety of different vendors, and proudly boasts its amazing international cuisine, regularly scheduled special events for the family and the freshest and finest meats, poultry, seafood, produce and flowers.  With so many different vendors, there is sure to be something to catch everyone’s attention and satisfy even the pickiest of taste buds.

The Del Mar Farmer’s Market is one of the oldest Farmer’s Markets in San Diego County and really emphasizes being an integral part of the community.  The Market actually is a non-profit, meaning that all of the fees collected from the market go back to the community.  In addition, some of the funds raised goes back to the farmer’s, in the form of educational scholarships.  Over the last 25 years, over $250,000 has been given out to the community and has helped many students pay for college and receive an education.

If you would like to visit the amazing Del Mar Farmer’s Market, which I highly recommend, you can come every Saturday from 1-4pm to the Del Mar City Parking Lot.  You can grab some of the fresh-squeezed orange-lime juice, have a bite of the delicious Indian cuisine or even score some major brownie points with your spouse like I did and bring home some of the beautiful flower arrangements.  Hopefully, I will see you all there.
