Del Mar native, Ashley Fox Linton, is the recipient of the Founder’s Day Service Award for her participation with the Holiday Magic Project, an annual compilation CD benefitting Children’s Hospitals. For the last 8 years, the vocalist has contributed original songs to the album with various collaborators.
About the Holiday Magic Project: Since 2003, the Children’s Holiday Magic Project has created an annual compilation CD of unique songs and stories that feature characters. It is handed out free-of-charge to children who are hospitalized during the Holiday season. The CD is made possible by generous contributions from singers and actors providing the custom songs, along with the support of sponsors and non-profit partners.
Holiday Magic is the brainchild of radio personality Jeff Gelder. “This labor of love is received with joy by children, who will unfortunately, be spending the holiday season in the hospital. And also by their siblings, who often crave attention due to being part of a family with an ailing member,” Gelder said.
This past year, Ashley created a companion children’s book, “Cherry Lane” with illustrations by fellow actor Tom Zohar. The two met performing in a production of “Sweeney Todd” at Cygnet Theatre.
“I’ve have had the privilege of being a part of the Holiday Magic Project for many years and it has changed the holidays for me,” says Ashley. “Each distribution day, we visit Children’s Hospitals to deliver the CD’s in person and to spend time singing with the children. That is my favorite day all Christmas season.”
“My hope is that the project will continue to grow; that artists will continue to contribute and that we reach more children every year.” The reach for the project increases each year with over 7,000 CDs supplied to children in U.S. cities, London and Singapore in 2013. The goal is to produce and deliver 10,000 CDs to children’s hospitals this year.
