The Helen Woodward Animal Center has a top of the line training program for all dogs coming into the Center, where they are not only taught basic commands like sit, heel, and stay, but are also given a purpose. Many dogs come into the Center with different mindsets; some are confident and assertive, while others are very apprehensive and have never even been on a leash before. The professional dog trainers help instill in them confidence to walk with their heads high and shoulders back. Every dog that enters this no-kill Center is provided top of the line care and is showered with lots of love and affection, with the goal of adopting all of the animals into loving homes. If you are interested in adopting a dog, the staff at Helen Woodward Animal Center will definitely work with you to pick the best fit for your family.
The Helen Woodward Animal Center also offers a Therapeutic Riding program for children and adults who have special needs, ranging from Down’s syndrome to autism, stroke recovery or even learning disabilities. The students actually get the opportunity to ride the specially trained horses along side the trainers, which helps increase their core muscle control, balance, and also helps give the riders a sense of confidence in themselves and their abilities. This program definitely provides all participants with a great opportunity to enhance their self- esteem while experiencing the joy of riding horses.
On June 2, 2012, the Center will be hosting their 24th Annual Spring Fling, “The Kit Kat Club” from 5:30 pm to midnight. This year’s event will be centered around a 1920’s theme, where all guests will get to enjoy the beautiful melodies of jazz, while bidding on auction items and enjoying food from some of San Diego’s top restaurants. All proceeds will go towards the Helen Woodward Animal Center programs, in particularly the therapeutic riding program and animal adoptions.
