One Billion Rising Flash Mob in Del Mar Beach, California

Hi! I am Laura Penn Gallerstein, and today we’re at Del Mar Beach and we just did a dance for One Billion Rising, a group that started in 2012 and it’s to support women and girls all around the world to help create awareness for violence and abuse to help stop it.

And this group started in 2012, and there were about 190 countries around the world supporting this cause, singing and dancing to this particular song, “Break the Chain.” And “Break the Chain” means, break the chain of violence and abuse for all women, all girls, and our message is not just women and girls, but men and boys and all people all around the world to bring peace.

So we started this today at Del Mar Beach as preparation for V-Day, which is around Valentine’s Day. And at that time this would be the third year that One Billion Rising Group is coordinating a massive worldwide effort to help bring awareness to the world about stopping abuse and violence against women and girls. So this is just the beginning, and this coming February we plan on collaborating with many, many other people to do a much broader and bigger Flash Mob Dance to bring awareness to this particular cause.
