Spring is in the Air and Kids are Everywhere!

Daylight savings time has arrived and the long anticipated days of warmer weather, sunshine and vacations are seen on the horizon.  It is a busy time for everyone especially for children.  Suddenly they are everywhere!  Riding bicycles, on skateboards, neighborhood pick up games in the streets and everything in between.  Beaches become meeting grounds for fun, sun and play.  Let’s take this opportunity as we enjoy our community to be alert and attentive to kids everywhere.

Here at Carmel Valley Pediatrics, we will like to extend a reminder to everyone regarding children during this time of the year.  Above all SAFETY!

• Slow down while driving through neighborhoods.  Kids are distracted and it is up to us adults to be attentive to that runaway ball.
• Make sure your kid has their sports physical and vaccinations up to date.  A quick check to your pediatrician will help keep them up to date.
• Remind kids of the importance of wearing helmets and other protective gear while playing their sports.
• While at the beach, keep your child under visual supervision at all times.  Unpredictable water currents and overconfidence in the water can be life threatening.
• And of course, don’t forget the sunscreen.

Founder of Healthy Chats, Dr. Chrystal de Freitas is a pediatrician, author and mother of three children who has a special interest in health education. She completed her pediatric training at the University of Washington, in Seattle, WA, and has been in private practice for 22 years.
