Living in San Diego where the weather is perfect virtually 365 days a year, I look for ways to get outside every chance I get. For me, this is especially crucial during those five days of the week where I sit inside staring at a computer for 8-plus hours. Does this sound like your life? Or perhaps your in-laws are in town or a childhood friend is visiting from the East Coast, and they are begging you to take them to a place where they can sit outside and enjoy the great outdoors. Does this ring a bell?
If so, Wine Steals in Cardiff is the place to be. For starters, this location was inspired by Tony’s Wine Cave on Lake Como where Tony is the “wine king.” In addition to the rustic feel inside, the outdoor patio (with heaters to eliminate any evening chill) allows for partial ocean views. You can imagine that you are actually in Italy, looking out at the lake (views of George Clooney not included).
Second, Wine Steals is always my go-to happy hour spot as the specials are amazing. Tuesday through Friday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., you can enjoy discounts on select wines by the glass. Additionally, two options are available for $2 pizza slices. Both the wine and pizza choices change on a daily basis to offer variety to regular patrons. If you’re not a wine aficionado, there are also beer options available.
If you’re looking for a day-date on a Saturday or an activity to do with a group of friends, be sure to check out the $10 wine tasting from 4-6 p.m. where you can sample 10 wines from around the world. This tasting also affords you the benefit of no corkage fee if you choose to purchase a bottle of wine from the 300-500 options or 10% off a bottle to take home with you.
In addition to the countless food and drink specials, on Tuesday nights from 7-9 p.m., live music is featured. Be sure to check out the website for additional specials, the other locations outside of North County, and directions to this hidden gem. One final tip, while street parking is available, there is also an underground parking structure. So raise your glass and enjoy a little slice of heaven at Wine Steals in Cardiff.
