We’re two months away from starting those New Year’s Resolutions. Are you one that sets resolutions, but just can’t quite stay on track, and achieve what you had originally planned?
I often have people come into the studio and ask how I made the leap from a 14 year financial planner to starting a fitness business. If you are a reader of my blog, The Healthy Girls, you know that I tend to be pretty honest about my life. In my case, I had a great job with fabulous people. I just wasn’t passionate about it any more. I felt like there wasn’t room to grow, and at only 32 years old, I felt I needed to keep moving forward.
I had really wanted to get into the fitness business for years. My dream had always been to open something like Canyon Ranch. But last I checked, that required MILLIONS! When I found Pilates a few years ago, I fell in love, did my certification, and started teaching out of my house. Unfortunately, I didn’t see how I could make a real living out of teaching pilates, unless I taught every day for 10 hours a day. Then I was just buying myself a high intensity job!
When I found Barre, I was transfixed. I just LOVED how I felt after every class – like jelly! I loved the power of finishing a class – when half way through I wasn’t sure I would! Finding Xtend Barre and opening Xtend Barre Carlsbad and Xtend Barre Carmel Valley has completely changed my life.
It was scary!!!! I missed my steady, healthy paycheck for that first year. But I learned real quick, life isn’t about money and financial security (not saying it isn’t important, but it can’t be your driving motivator). When I opened the business, my husband talked about how much nicer I have become. How much easier to get along with I am. Apparently I was more dissatisfied than I even knew!
But enough about me – How about YOU????
Are you doing what you love?
Are you spending time with people you enjoy?
Do you know what you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Do you find that you have a hard time motivating yourself to eat well, exercise, or do other things that you know are good for you just because you are secretly unhappy doing what you’re really doing?
This last question is so telling to me. If clients come in to the studio and say they are gaining weight, not working out, and not doing the things that motivate or inspire them.
I challenge you over these two months to identify: What’s holding you back? Take a chance. Step out and try something new. Find a community of like minded people who are looking to better themselves. Or maybe find a life or business coach. They’ll help keep you on track, and moving forward to your new potential! You never know what’s in store for you!
