Carmel Valley Rec Center: a Place for Life-long Friendships

When you think of summer in Southern California and specifically in the Carmel Valley San Diego community, you think of the beach, pool parties, and fun in the sun. Well, that’s exactly what the Martins family was doing when we stopped them for a quick little interview. We met up with them at our local Carmel Valley Rec Center where they were finishing up a group play date with other moms and dads. Group play dates are quite common in our community and is evident if you just take a walk around any neighborhood.

Bobby and Sheryl Martins became involved in play groups shortly after Sheryl gave birth to their son. San Diego Parent Connection was one of the sites her hospital recommended as a resource to connect with other similar parents (i.e. child age group and activity levels). For the Martins, this was one of the best decisions they made as new parents. Now, they have created many relationships within the community that they hope lasts a life-time; and not just for themselves but more importantly for their children.
As a non-profit parenting support network, the Parent Connection has been brining families together since 1980. They welcome all parents, both married and single and parents in their 20’s and those in their 40s. This creates a great melting pot of first-time and experienced parents throughout San Diego County, that then share with one another stories, events, tips, information and experiences for the betterment of the community and the children.
The local Carmel Valley San Diego community Rec Center is a place where you can find a ton of fun things to do. It is considered one of the best in San Diego. The facility includes: outdoor basketball courts, tot lot, playground, picnic areas, a multi purpose athletic field, tennis courts, a full size gymnasium, meeting room, game room, craft room, full size kitchen and a swimming pool nearby. But we can’t stop there.  The swimming pool isn’t just a swimming pool, it has a huge water slide and fun water zone for the younger kids.
