Many Carmel Valley residents have watched this community grow right before their eyes – with new developments, roads and community facilities added year by year. One thing that hasn’t changed though is the strong heart of Carmel Valley, the collection of shopping centers, parks, homes and condos located south of Del Mar Heights and north of Highway 56. Of course back when Carmel Valley lay down its first roots, there wasn’t even a Highway 56, but rather Black Mountain Road – a rock filled dirt route connecting Carmel Valley to areas to the east. As Carmel Valley has expanded with the influx of new residents this area continues to exemplify the lifestyle we are still known for.
If Carmel Valley did have a physical heart one could argue it would be the Pacific Athletic Club located on Carmel Country Rd. More than a typical gym, PAC is a true resort club that continues to be a meeting place for Carmel Valley’s residents – a place where families socialize at the pool, business deals are made at networking event and tired bodies get pampered at the Sanctuary Spa after one of many fitness programs. One visit to the Pacific Athletic Club will tell you the Carmel Valley is one active community!
While many in the area know about all that PAC has to offer, fewer know about another jewel in the neighborhood, the Seabreeze Farms Equestrian Center. This facility hosts boarding for 80 horses but it also offers some great resources for learning. Seabreeze Farms provides interactive classes for kids where they can learn about riding, handling and grooming horses in a safe and fun environment.
Central Carmel Valley is home to some of San Diego’s best public and private schools and this is a big reason why from the early 80’s till today it been an area of focus for Carmel Valley buyers. Ashley Falls Elementary School is consistently a top performer and is also a buzz of activity on the weekends, with little league games and soccer tournaments. Private schools also thrive in this part of Carmel Valley, notably Notre Dame Academy which offers a first class catholic education and prepares students to excel at higher levels including Cathedral Catholic High School just a couple miles to its east.
Given Carmel Valley schools’ success it’s no wonder that the businesses and shopping complexes cater to families in offering a wide range of activities year round. Carmel Piazza, located just north of Highway 56, is a spot where families can gather for community events like Halloween costume contest, Easter celebrations and regular Movies Nights.
