About Autism Discovery Institute at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego
Rady Children’s is committed to improving quality of life for children with autism spectrum disorders and their families. Your gift will support our efforts to ensure consistently excellent, coordinated care that is informed by ground-breaking research. From the pediatrician’s office to specialty care services, such as neurology, to the Autism Discovery and Genomics institutes, we will work together to accelerate our ability to provide robust care and transform the lives of children and families.
One of Rady Children’s most effective intervention programs is Alexa’s PLAYC, a unique early education program for children 18 months to 5 years who are at risk for or diagnosed with autism and their typically developing peers. Mateo’s journey began at 18 months at Alexa’s PLAYC where his family said the early intervention techniques and caring staff were effective in bringing him out of his shell. Mateo continued to work on social goals through a social skills group at the Autism Discovery Institute. Mateo’s mother feels that while each developmental milestone has presented unique challenges, the range of programs offered by the Autism Discovery Institute has given Mateo and his family the skills necessary to address each challenge. Mateo is now a busy 6-year-old boy who is included in a regular education classroom, enjoys building with Legos, and loves playing with his older brother.
