Adult students coming into the studio to research dance instruction for themselves do so for many reasons. Some are students that have dance backgrounds from their younger years and are looking to ‘get back to their roots’; some look at dance instruction as a new hobby or a way to meet new people. But for 80% of the female clientele that visit the studio, the prospective student is looking for a fun way to exercise in a warm and accepting environment. After thirty two years of teaching adult students, I would say the most common phrase I hear is “my body was never the same after I had kids”.
Just this statement and the body image that accompanies that statement keeps prospective dancers from joining and beginning to enjoy the benefits of a dance program. I hear ‘That looks fun, but I can’t do that now. I’m so out of shape”. No matter how encouraging the instructor is, this feeling ‘not in shape’ keeps some adults in the same old rut and keeps them not only from joining a dance class but from many daily activities. Their lack of esteem about how they look is holding them hostage.
One way I have found to encourage some of my adult female students is by offering at our studio a specialized weight loss and nutrition program especially designed for busy women called appropriately Body Back ®.
The Body Back ® System is the brain child of Lisa Druxman M.A., a San Diego resident, wife, mother and a San Diego State University graduate with a Master’s degree in psychology with an emphasis in exercise adherence and weight control. Lisa is a nationally recognized speaker and author of L.E.A.N. Mommy (the title suggests the material – Learn Eating Awareness and Nutrition). Lisa has been featured on NBC’s Today Show, CNN, The Montel Williams Show and Access Hollywood. The Body Back ® System is a byproduct of her original exercise program and successful franchise StrollerStrides ®.
The Body Back ® System is a results based workout designed specifically for busy women and moms. Whether you’ve just had a baby or had a baby 20 years ago, you can get your body back. The Body Back ® Workouts include high-intensity workouts, inspiration and motivation in every class. In conjunction with the ‘Mama Wants Her Body Back Meal Plan and Food Diary”, at home work-out DVD’s and online support, successful weight loss and maintenance is the only result.
Seeing my female students beginning gain to back control of their bodies and building a good body image is my reward. With the new sense of self, we see our female adult students, more than ever, jumping into their dancewear and participating in more dance classes, making new friendships and their personalities returning to an earlier time in their life when the day to day wasn’t challenging.
For all adults, finding a form of exercise that exhilarates you is the key. If you are one of those ‘that looks fun, but I can’t do it now..’ people, check out the Body Back ® System. Body Back ® is currently serving San Diego with 8 locations. See BodyBackWorkout.com for a location near you and get your body back.
