Del Mar Dog Beach A Local San Diego Favorite

Where the surf meets the turf, Del Mar, CA is an upscale coastal community boasting a rich history and old-world charm. Del Mar is Spanish and when translated it means

“of the sea” or “by the sea”. Although this city that translates to by the sea, there is so much more to offer than their beautiful beaches.

The Del Mar horse races are hosted on the Del Mar racetrack every summer. Built in the early 1930’s, this one-mile long race track runs counter-clockwise holding a capacity of 44,000 guest is the second largest horse-racing venue in the western United States. Founded in partnership by famous actors and horse lovers alike from; Bing Crosby, Pat O’Brien, Gary Cooper, Joe E. Brown, Charles S. Howard, and Oliver Hardy. The Del Mar racetrack is all about racing from July through early September. Head over to the coast where you’ll find another noteworthy Del Mar attraction, Del Mar State beach.

Torrey Pines State Beach is another popular attraction located south of Del Mar. The beach is at the bottom of a 300-foot white and golden sandstone cliffs, which has been created over hundreds of years of coastal erosion. It’s a local favorite among surfers and remains a quintessential Southern California Beach. This city flourishes with sea side amenities which leads us to another beach made popular by the local pooches.

Bring your four-legged friends to North Beach, also known as Del Mar Dog Beach, and let them frolic and play in the waves. With its exceptional weather, outdoor activities can be enjoyed all year long. Fido will truly enjoy frolicking around in the water, digging in the sand and enjoying the scents of the salty air. There is also a nearby trial that leads up to an overlook at James Scripps Bluff Preservation just above North Beach, the views and the trail are definitely worth exploring. With plenty of room for you pooch to play in the sand and soak in the beach from 29th Street north all the way to Solana beach, dogs can run freely, except during the summer months when they must be on-leash.
