Cleanings are some of the most popular treatments requested at Torrey Hills Dental. Many patients will call and request a dental cleaning, in order to ensure plaque and bacteria are removed from their teeth. But most people are unaware of the different types of cleaning offered, and which one is right for them. At Torrey Hills Dental, they understand the importance of teeth cleaning and will choose the correct cleaning based on the diagnosis they obtain when looking at your teeth.
Typically there are three types of dental cleaning. The most common type of dental cleaning is prophylaxis, which is catered towards those who have a healthy oral environment, free of periodontal disease and gingivitis. This procedure will remove plaque from teeth and the gum line, and is most commonly associated with teeth cleaning. The second type of dental cleaning is known as a full mouth debridement, and is specifically for those patients who have been diagnosed with gingivitis. During this process, plaque is removed from the full mouth and teeth are assessed. After this procedure is done, patients can return to having a healthy oral environment. For those who have active periodontal disease, we often do a treatment called scaling and root planning, a non-surgical treatment that will remove build up, both above and below the gum line. This particular treatment can take several visits to complete in order to create a more health oral condition in the mouth.
Because statistics show that 50% of adults, over the age of 30, have periodontal disease, Torrey Hills Dental offers a very unique and aggressive treatment plan to help prevent and treat periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is associated with many different conditions and diseases, such as heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and even dementia. At Torrey Hills Dental, we really focus on creating a healthier individual, starting with optimal oral health.
