Photo Tip: Finding the Correct Height

The photo tip this time around is about height, what height you are shooting at. And a lot of us take photos directly at whatever our natural height is, maybe a little bit lower, maybe a little bit higher if you’re shooting a big group or something. But specifically for summer photos, for kids and pets, what I want you to do next time is, say your toddler is playing in the sand at the beach, making a great little sand castle. What I want you to do is get down at their eye level. Ideally, you want to be somewhere between eye level and chest level. And what this is going to do is, automatically you are going to be in the action.

That person that views that photo, they’re not going to be looking at somebody who is looking at the action happening, they are going to be right there with the toddler, right there with the dog running through the yard, right there with your little boy who is on the swing set. Just really think about putting yourself at the eye and chest level of the subject. It’s going to make a world of difference. So next time you are out there, remember, think about the height and shoot between eye and chest level of your subject. Let me know how it works out for you, and I’ll see you guys next time.
