I know! I’m from the Midwest – Indiana to be exact. Whenever I go home for a week, I pretty much have to resign myself to a 3-5 pound weight gain.
HUH???? 3-5 pounds in a week?
Yep, my family loves food! Our social events always revolve around a meal! We no sooner leave the breakfast table, when the discussion starts about what we’re going to do for lunch. And you know we couldn’t go an entire day without snacks!!!!
I adore my family! And I adore the fact that we have always valued time together and sitting and talking about our day, or whatever, even if it seems to always be at the dinner table! And unfortunately, now as an adult, I find that those social meals also include a couple of glasses of wine (or even worse a couple of margaritas)!
But if you’re like me and not a skinny girl naturally, that is a habit that you will soon find you need to break! I have to remember that I didn’t get together with my friends for the food and drinks, I got together with my friends for the time to sit together and talk. If I’m trying to lose weight in San Diego, I have to really be mindful of not getting roped into the many happy hours or other typical social events that could derail my weight loss efforts!
So, what can you do to have some fun with your friends that doesn’t include consuming that 2000 calorie restaurant meal and help you lose weight and achieve your goals?
You see, that social activities don’t have to be all about food! Find something YOU love – and invite your friends to join you!

Originally from the Midwest, Amy moved to San Diego in 2001. A graduate of Valparaiso University, Amy had been a Financial Advisor since 1997. When Amy began taking Pilates with her neighbor Wendy, in 2006, she fell in love with the method and benefits of the program and knew she wanted to help others achieve their fitness goals. It was not until Amy took her first barre class that she discovered her true passion for fitness. She loved the challenge and energy of each class. And more importantly, she was excited by the results as her body became more toned than through any other workout routine she had tried in the past. Amy would be one of the best testimonials for Fit in 60 Pilates and Barre. In less than a month’s time, attending 4-5 classes a week, Amy went from a size 10/12 to a size 6. She came home one day and told her husband, Mike that “if every girl knew this, every girl would do it.” Amy is passionate about getting to know her clients and provide modifications and corrections to challenge every client, while making classes as safe as possible. Amy lives in Carlsbad with her husband, Mike, and her dog Emma. She loves what she does, and is thrilled to present the Fit in 60 workout to Carlsbad and Carmel Valley and is eager to help women look and feel great!
