It’s that time of year! Summer barbeques, days at the beach – just time to be sociable with friends.
During the summer, we often eat less volume, just because the heat causes us to be less hungry. Unfortunately, we normally make up for it with high calorie social events that include nuts, hot dogs, milkshakes, potato chips, etc.
It also normally includes many more calories through our social, alcoholic beverages.
As you plan your social calendar, be aware of what you are drinking! These are the typical sizes of the beverages provided by a bar.
10 oz Sangria = about 230 calories
8 oz Mojito = about 225 calories
8 0z Margarita on the rocks = 250 calories
12 oz Strawberry Daiquiri = about 670 calories
(Just a reminder that a one hour Fit in 60 barre class burns 500-700 calories – so this would take an entire class to burn off just ONE of these drinks.)
And the mother of all calorie traps, a
14 oz Pina Colada = about 875 calories
(Again – this is MORE than you would burn in a Fit in 60 barre class.)
What does this mean for you? If your goal is not weight loss (or maybe maintaining your weight – likely nothing). But if you are like me or many of the other women in San Diego – you are always interested in losing a few pounds. If that’s the case – It means you have to choose wisely! You can literally drink two entire days of calories with just three pina coladas! Or you could chose a wine based sangria or spritzer for only a fraction of the calories. Personally, I love a great glass of cold champagne – maybe with a few fresh or frozen berries added.
A 4 oz glass of champagne is about 90 calories. A full 8 oz glass is about 180 calories. If you choose to add a bit of cold soda water, it becomes a champagne spritzer and you can cut the calories by a third to a half.
Just make good decisions and choose what you will be spending your calories on. Mindful decisions are necessary for weight loss! We’d love to invite you to Fit in 60 Pilates and Barre to burn off some of those summer calories! We offer 10 days for $19 for first time clients to come try the workout and different instructors! Every class is different and meant to challenge your body, burn calories, and sculpt your muscles – all in less than an hour!

Originally from the Midwest, Amy moved to San Diego in 2001. A graduate of Valparaiso University, Amy had been a Financial Advisor since 1997. When Amy began taking Pilates with her neighbor Wendy, in 2006, she fell in love with the method and benefits of the program and knew she wanted to help others achieve their fitness goals. It was not until Amy took her first barre class that she discovered her true passion for fitness. She loved the challenge and energy of each class. And more importantly, she was excited by the results as her body became more toned than through any other workout routine she had tried in the past. Amy would be one of the best testimonials for Fit in 60 Pilates and Barre. In less than a month’s time, attending 4-5 classes a week, Amy went from a size 10/12 to a size 6. She came home one day and told her husband, Mike that “if every girl knew this, every girl would do it.” Amy is passionate about getting to know her clients and provide modifications and corrections to challenge every client, while making classes as safe as possible. Amy lives in Carlsbad with her husband, Mike, and her dog Emma. She loves what she does, and is thrilled to present the Fit in 60 workout to Carlsbad and Carmel Valley and is eager to help women look and feel great!
