Have you gotten the bikini body YOU wanted this year? It seems that every year, most women in San Diego make the resolution to lose weight! One of the biggest factors in weight loss is your metabolism. Although your metabolism may be a variable that you don’t think you can control, that isn’t entirely true!
Drink more water! Our bodies are made up of 70-80% water. This water helps our organs function properly and helps our waste travel through our body efficiently. If you are struggling to lose weight, take a good, long look at your water consumption. Are you drinking half your body weight in water? If not, you might be fighting an uphill battle with your weight loss!
Get more sleep! You should be jumping up and down about this! We often get so busy, that we feel like we need to fit MORE into our days! But by doing this, we are training our bodies to operate in the fight or flight mode! We are increasing the levels of cortisol – the hormone largely responsible for how our body metabolizes and stores calories into fat!! This is SO important, and something that should be a no brainer. Learn to relax. Take a nap. Aim for at least eight hours of sleep each night.
Exercise! Your metabolism is stoked by increased muscle mass!
Take a barre class, take a pilates class, go for a run on the beach, dance! Do something active! Studies show that increased muscle mass helps your body burn more calories when it is at rest! So, do something to increase your muscle strength! The cardio component of your workout helps you burn calories while you are actually doing it (and a few hours after). They both are important components of a workout! For maximum efficiency – try to find a workout that incorporates both cardio and resistance in the same workout/class! It will help you “get the most bang for your buck.” The need for both cardio and resistance in the same workout is the entire reason Fit in 60 Barre classes are designed as they are! We strive to make a 60 minute workout as efficient as possible for San Diego women for maximum weight loss and toning!
Don’t give up! Follow these three easy tips and you may just drop a couple of pounds – without even trying!

Originally from the Midwest, Amy moved to San Diego in 2001. A graduate of Valparaiso University, Amy had been a Financial Advisor since 1997. When Amy began taking Pilates with her neighbor Wendy, in 2006, she fell in love with the method and benefits of the program and knew she wanted to help others achieve their fitness goals. It was not until Amy took her first barre class that she discovered her true passion for fitness. She loved the challenge and energy of each class. And more importantly, she was excited by the results as her body became more toned than through any other workout routine she had tried in the past. Amy would be one of the best testimonials for Fit in 60 Pilates and Barre. In less than a month’s time, attending 4-5 classes a week, Amy went from a size 10/12 to a size 6. She came home one day and told her husband, Mike that “if every girl knew this, every girl would do it.” Amy is passionate about getting to know her clients and provide modifications and corrections to challenge every client, while making classes as safe as possible. Amy lives in Carlsbad with her husband, Mike, and her dog Emma. She loves what she does, and is thrilled to present the Fit in 60 workout to Carlsbad and Carmel Valley and is eager to help women look and feel great!
