砭法与古中醫的大智慧
Lecture, demonstration, and reception on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
Learn about the ancient wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine with Dr. Daozheng Li.
His expertise includes Chinese Acupuncture, Guasha 刮痧 (scraping of the skin), cupping 拔罐 (applying local suction), massage, and the use of disease differentiation to address hard-to-treat cases. You can witness some of these techniques when Dr. Li gives an on-the-spot demonstration. For over 30 years, Dr. Li has immersed himself in the study of traditional Chinese Bian Therapy 古砭法, an acupuncture therapy named after a fine-pointed stone that is used for massage. He is also the advanced Massage, Guasha and Cupping Therapist of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. This lecture is a unique opportunity to learn about Dr. Li’s unique fusion of traditional methods that has cured difficult diseases, furthered medical theories, attracted international media attention, and solved problems that have vexed modern clinical medicine.
Dr. Daozheng Li was born into a medical family in 1948 Shanghai. His great-great-grandfather, Jinyong Li, served the Qing Empire as a senior courtier, entrepreneur and secretary scholar. Under the influence of his father, Dr. Li decided to pursue a career in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) when he was young. For three decades, he dedicated himself to the study of traditional Chinese Bian Therapy in addition to continuing his farming duties in the countryside, his job in the city, and completing college coursework. In the words of a Chinese saying, “Your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.” Since 2000, Dr. Li has offered home visits to patients from all around the world, including Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States, and Australia. He earned the nickname “Chinese Doctor with No Prescriptions”. In 2009, he established the Shanghai Acupuncture Clinic Health and Spa, Inc., which receives over 700 visits every year.
Dr. Li’s Guasha therapy integrates different TCM treatments: the breathing and kinetic movements of Qigong气功, the acupuncture technique known as Dim Mark 推倒点穴, the skin abrasion of Guasha 拍打疗法, and gently tactile Patting Therapy拍打疗法. His clinical treatment is based on the concept “Straighten the spine, unblock the meridian” (正脊椎通百脉) and other theories such as the Traditional Chinese Meridian, Bioholography, and Spinal Misalignment. After thirty years of research and clinical practices, with persistence and self-reliance, Dr. Li has advanced traditional Bian Therapy, discovered more details about a seasonal syndrome associated known as Sha Disease痧毒 and accumulated abundant experience on traditional Chinese techniques of health preservation. He has also solved difficult problems for modern clinical medicine, cured difficult diseases, and furthered medical theories.
Dr. Li’s unique Qigong-Tuina-Patting Therapy gained domestic and overseas media attention. Shanghai News of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Health News, Oriental Morning Post, St.Louis Chinese Journal-U.S., Mirror News-Australia, and Australian Chinese Wenhui Post have each made a series of reports about Dr. Li. In 2013, Dr. Li was invited to teach courses on his Bian Therapy in Hong Kong, which received popular acclaim in the local community.
The event will take place at the Chuang Archive & Learning Center, located at 541 B Second Avenue, a reception with light refreshments will follow. Admission is $4.00; members and children under 12 are free.
